The local Latrobe Council, in Tasmania, has granted feed supplier BioMar Group the final approval for it to go ahead with its AUD 56 million (USD 40.6 million) investment in a new aquaculture feed production facility.
As a consequence, the Group can start the 14-month construction phase and take the all-important next steps.
In December 2017, BioMar announced plans to develop a world-class state of the art aquaculture feed production facility in Tasmania in response to the growth seen in the sector.
“The Environment Protection Authority approved the Development Proposal and Environmental Management Plan, ensuring BioMar’s production facility meets all required environmental responsibilities and practices,” pointed out BioMar Australia Technical Customer Account Manager Alasdair Bradley.
The site once housed a particle board manufacturing mill and the redundant facilities have been dismantled and it is now ready for work to start on the new production building.
“Now that we have all the final approvals we look forward to getting construction underway and soon we will be producing locally made, high-performance aquaculture feed not only for the Australian market but for New Zealand and in the near future other export markets”, concluded Carlos Diaz, CEO of BioMar Group.
