The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) authorized the Institute of Marine Affairs of Peru (IMARPE) to carry out an exploratory fishing activity of scallop (Argopecten purpuratus) in areas of Independencia Bay that have health clearance.
Ministerial Resolution 398-2018, which authorizes fishing as of the business day following its publication, will include the list of artisanal vessels with a valid fishing permit that will participate in the authorized capture activity, ending at sixty (60) calendar days later at the beginning of the aforementioned activity.

The authorized exploratory activity will be carried out under the following conditions:
- The participating artisanal fishing vessels must have a valid fishing permit and a sanitary technical protocol issued by the Sanitary Authority.
- The minimum catch height is 65 mm.
- Artisanal fishing vessels will carry out their fishing activities from Monday to Friday.
- Each fishing vessel will have an operational satellite navigation system to record the capture area.
- The landing of the caught resource will be performed only in Laguna Grande.
- Information on the caught resource should be provided when required by authorized representatives of the Regional Production Directorate of the Regional Government of Ica, PRODUCE or IMARPE.
PRODUCE will arrange the suspension of the exploratory activity authorized by this Ministerial Resolution, when any of the following assumptions occur:
- Failure to comply with the provisions of this Ministerial Resolution and the technical capture recommendations issued by IMARPE.
- The incidence of acts of hindrance to supervision work or that put the integrity and safety of the inspectors of the Regional Government of Ica or PRODUCE at risk.
It is also established that the IMARPE will carry out the monitoring and follow-up of exploratory fishing, recommending PRODUCE in a timely manner, the suspension of the aforementioned activity, to consider that the sustainability of the scallop resource is being affected.
