Frozen octopus prices have dropped 15%

In August 2020, frozen octopus imports amounted to 233 tons, down 51 % from 479 tons a year earlier, while cumulative frozen octopus imports in August totaled 1,864 tons, down 43 % from 3,249 tons a year earlier.
The average August import volume from 2015 to 2020 was 392 tons, down about 41 % from 233 tons in 2020.
The major exporting countries of frozen octopus are 15 countries including Mauritania, Indonesia, Philippines, China, Madagascar, Venezuela, Senegal, Mexico, Peru, and Vietnam.
From Mauritania, 54% (1,001 tons), 14% (258 tons) from Indonesia, 10% (177 tons) from the Philippines, 9% (171 tons) from China, 5% (96 tons) from Madagascar, 2% (45 tons) from Senegal, 2% (42 tons) from Venezuela, 2% (31 tons) from Mexico and 1% (21 tons) from Peru.
In August 2020, frozen octopus imports amounted to USD 1.57 million, down about 59 % from USD 3.83 million a year earlier.
The average unit price of imports in August was USD 6.76/kg, about 15% lower than USD 7.99/kg in the previous year.
