The Kamchatka Fisheries Council summarized the preliminary results of the "red" fishing season. The catch of Pacific salmon off the coast of the region as of September 15 amounted to 438 thousand tons, a record result in the last 20 years.
The council meeting was chaired by Governor Vladimir Solodov. According to the regional government press service, the actual catches were 20% higher than the forecast figures originally established by industry science.
The planned indicators for pink salmon from western Kamchatka were exceeded - 173 thousand tons against the forecast of 144 thousand tons (120%), for pink salmon from eastern Kamchatka - 202 thousand tons against the forecast of 151 thousand tons (134%). ).

“The initial forecast was about 360 thousand tons. To date, the fishery has dominated 438 thousand tonnes, which represents almost 122% of the initial forecast. The excess was recorded mainly for pink salmon. Therefore, 86% of the total catch in the Far East region belongs to the territory of Kamchatka. We have not seen such positive results in more than 20 years of history. This indicates a favorable situation in the territory of Kamchatka, but at the same time, such results are not observed in other regions, and we must take into account their experience when making new decisions”, said Nina Shpigalskaya, Head of the Kamchatka branch of VNIRO . .

The Kamchatka government drew attention to the fact that intensive work was done during the fishing season to regulate the production of anadromous fish species. In total, 33 meetings were held, at some stages of the fishing season, the commission met daily, said the Minister of Fisheries of the Territory Andrei Zdevetsky.
He pointed out a number of characteristics of this year's regulatory measures. In particular, industry science has developed special regulatory measures for the Kamchatka River basin, which has had a positive effect: catch rates exceeded 12 thousand tons. Likewise, the target indicators for the level of passage of sockeye and chum salmon to the spawning areas have been achieved, which will allow maintaining the expanded reproduction of salmon.
“The basins of the Avacha and Paratunka rivers were difficult to regulate this year, mainly in the regulation of traditional fishing. We took quite harsh measures: the fishery was open for the indigenous peoples of the North for 10 days for chum salmon, for coho salmon, from August 20 to September 6, with passing days for all types of fishing. However, we do not have alternative options until we restore the reserves of these rivers. Furthermore, the situation with the Opala River has escalated this year. We need to make decisions about the regulation of fishing in this facility to restore the populations ”, emphasized the minister.
Andrey Zdeovetsky recalled that the Kamchatka Fish project continued during the fishing season. A total of 162 tons of refrigerated salmon were sold at 50 rubles per kilogram and 17.5 tons of caviar at 2-3 thousand rubles per kilogram. The Kamchatka Salmon Fishermen Association supplied 200 tonnes of frozen sockeye fish for subsequent sale after the fishing season.

According to regional authorities, 96 industrial companies, 121 indigenous communities participated in the salmon fishery this year, recreational fishing is organized in 80 sites.
The volumes for traditional fishing amounted to almost 7.5 thousand tons. In addition to the communities, more than 10,000 people availed themselves of the right to fish in the amount of 50 to 200 kg, depending on the area of residence. For amateur fishing, around 730 tonnes of salmon have been allocated at the request of the organizers, taking into account the demand for vouchers.
