In 2020, the Peruvian eel fishery went through a pre-evaluation process under the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) standard.
The main objective of the Peruvian Eel Fishery Improvement Project is to improve fishing practices and management systems for the sustainable management of the Peruvian Eel (Ophichthus remiger) Fishery to a point where the fishery is able to pass a full assessment of the MSC standard.
The implementation of the Peruvian Eel Fishery Improvement Project is led by Sakana del Perú and Perupez S.A.C., companies that make up the Peruvian Association of Eel Producers (APPA), whose president is Mr. Dario Alvites Diestra and has the technical support and Network coordination – Fisheries Sustainability.
