To increase the supply of clams and to provide customers with specialties such as Maryland Blue Crab, Chesapeake Bay “Rockfish” and fresh oysters, United Shellfish Company was opened in 1960. The plant is ideally located deep in the Chesapeake Bay area – one of the most fertile seafood regions in the nation.
Covering 40,000 square feet, the modern plant delivered more than 7 million pounds of specialty seafood in the past year. With 60 employees and 20 trucks, the Maryland facility harvests and distributes specialty seafood such as fresh oysters, crabmeat, shrimp and fresh fish to over 1,200 customers in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
