Mackerel

Prices

The average price of Chinese imports of mackerel in the first four months of 2019 was USD 1.56 per kg, 15% more than in the same period of the previous year. Norwegian mackerel imports averaged USD 1.82, a price 20% higher than in 2018, while those of Russia averaged USD 0.57, down 12% from the previous year.

Markets

Mackerel imports in the first four months of the year totaled 59,999 tons, 29% more than in 2018. From Norway, 27,167 entered, 1% higher than in 2018.

1.2 Japan

Herring roes

Prices

The average price of salted herring roes imports (HS 030520010) was JPY 940/kg in May, price 2% less on that of April and down 23% on that of May 2018. During the first five months, it averaged JPY 906/kg, down 16% on that of the same period in the previous year.

Markets

Imports of salted of herring roes (or dried), HS 030520010, reached 182 tonnes in the month analysed, worth JPY 171 million CIF at Japanese Customs, up 134% in volume and 128% in value than that imported in April and down 62% in volume and 71% in value on those of May 2018.

In the first five month of the year, imports totalled 478 tonnes and JPY 434 million, down 51% in volume and 59% in value on those of the same period in 2018.

The main supplier of herring roes of HS 030520010 was Russia during the period, with 137 tonnes and JPY 130 million.
