This report deals with pelagic species catch volumes for human consumption in waters of Norway. It also tackles aspects such as prices, markets and exports of species hereinafter detailed in the index.

 

1. EUROPE

1.1 Norway

Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus)

From the beginning of the mackerel (scomber scombrus) season in Norway (August 2018) until June 2019, 65,454 tonnes of mackerel greater than 600 g were exported, for an FOB value of EUR 118,555,000, 191% more in volume and 232% more in value than exported in the same period of the previous season.

The average price for the 600+ was EUR 1,810 per ton, 14% higher than the last season.

Japan is the main destination of the product, importing 27,062 tons for EUR 48,558,000, almost 5 times more in volume and value than in the same period of the last season.

In the 2017/2018 season, the average FOB price paid by Japan was EUR 1,870/t, EUR 80 more than that of the current season.

China was the destination of 6,483 tonnes, at a price per ton of EUR 1,750.

Bellow 600g mackerel of the current season has also been exported, 172,012 tonnes for EUR 271,630,000, at an average FOB price of EUR 1.57, 28% more than in the previous season.

China was the main destination for frozen mackerel of less than 600 g, importing 40,373 tonnes for EUR 64,195,000, 38% less in volume and 10% less in value than in the same period of the last season.

In the 2017/2018 harvest, the average FOB price paid by China was EUR 1,240 per ton, EUR 350 more than that of the current season.

China was the destination of 32,905 tons, at a price per ton of EUR 1,630.
