1.1 Japan
Bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus)
Prices
The average price of Japanese imports of frozen bigeye was JPY 780 in March, similar value on that of the previous month and down 7% on that of March 2018.
During the first three months, the average was JPY 785/kg, down 8% on that of the same period last year.

Markets
During the month analysed, imports of frozen bigeye reached 4,563 tonnes, worth JPY 3,560 million, up 23% in volume and in value on those registered in the previous month and down 12% in volume and 18% in value on those of March 2018.

In the first quarter of the year imports reached 12,090 tonnes and JPY 9,489 million, 8% less in volume and 15% in value than in the same period last year.
The 56% of imports were from Taiwan (6,737 tonnes) while those from China amounted to 22% (2,681 tonnes).
