Dear friends,
As you may know, last August alongside AquaNor 2013 in Norway, 15 farmed salmon producers from around the world launched the Global Salmon Initiative (GSI), with a joint ambition to significantly improve the sustainability of the salmon farming industry. Focused on industry cooperation and transparency, GSI decided to focus on improving the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social, and economic.
With support from our network of friends and partners, including World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, GSI is focusing on three priority areas of focus; biosecurity, feed and nutrition, and meeting the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) salmon standards by 2020.
Since last August, GSI has been working hard, together with our industry partners, to determine and implement new pathways to accelerate industry transformation in terms of sustainability. At the upcoming Seafood Expo North America in Boston next month, GSI are holding a series of events where we will be showcasing the progress we are making and updating on our goals for 2014, and we would like you to join us.
The events taking place are:
· Pathways to Sustainability - A discussion of the practical solutions to accelerate the aquaculture industry towards greater – A session led by speakers from GSI, WWF, FAO and Rabobank
· Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) Mini GOAL event
Full details can be found in the invites attached to this email.
With a mutual interest in both the farmed salmon industry, and greater industry sustainability we do hope you are able to attend and hear more about our evolving story.
GSI spokespeople and panellists will be available for interviews both onsite in Boston and via telephone. If you are interested in organizing an interview please let us know by contacting the GSI secretariat at GSI@axon-com.com.
We look forward to seeing you in Boston!
Kind regards,
AXON London GSI Team
