This week more than 2 dozen tuna fishing nations meet in Lima, Peru to propose, debate, and agree to management measures for eastern Pacific Ocean fisheries. Among the most pressing conservation issues is the plight of Pacific bluefin tuna.
After decades of overfishing, the population hovers at just 4 percent of its original size, and the unsustainably high catch of juveniles—the smallest fish—threatens the species’ continued existence.
Please join The Pew Charitable Trusts for A Global Hangout to Save Pacific Bluefin Tuna as conservationists join together in a call to action. The event will include the debut of an animated video detailing the simple steps fishing nations can take to help bring Pacific bluefin back from the brink of collapse.
