PRODUCE Sets Quota of 740 Tons for Octopus in the Northern Region

This catch limit applies to the adjacent maritime area of ​​the Lobos de Afuera and Lobos de Tierra Islands in the regions of Piura and Lambayeque.

The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) established the maximum permissible capture quota of the octopus resource (Octopus mimus), for the year 2024, at 740 tons for the authorized extractive activity in the maritime area of ​​the Lobos de Afuera and Lobos de Tierra Islands. in the regions of Piura and Lambayeque.

Through Ministerial Resolution No. 000250-2024-PRODUCE, published in El Peruano, it was established that the maximum allowable catch quota can be modified based on the evolution of biological, fishing, environmental factors or availability of the resource, following a report. from the Institute of the Sea of ​​Peru (IMARPE).

It should be noted that the extractive activity will be carried out by artisanal fishing vessels equipped with air compressors with a valid fishing permit and non-boarded artisanal fishermen who have a valid fishing permit.

Likewise, the extraction of the octopus resource specimens must be carried out respecting the minimum capture weight of 1.0 kilogram established by Ministerial Resolution No. 209-2001-PE.

PRODUCE concludes the extractive activity when the maximum allowable catch quota is reached or estimated to be reached, when IMARPE recommends it due to environmental or biological circumstances or, failing that, the extractive activities will conclude on December 31, 2024.

The case of the area of ​​the Lobos de Afuera and Lobos de Tierra Islands

The standard specified that, on Lobos de Afuera Island, the use of the octopus resource is carried out in the maritime area of ​​the Recovery Zone (REC) and the Direct Use Zone 2 (AD-2).

In the case of Lobos de Tierra Island, the use is carried out in the maritime area of ​​the Recovery Zone (REC), with the exception of the Wilderness Zone.

Artisanal fishermen who participate in the extraction in these areas must be part of the list of artisanal fishing vessels and non-boarded artisanal fishermen published by the agency with fishing jurisdiction of the respective Regional Government.

Finally, within a period of five (5) business days, counted from the entry into force of this rule, the agency with fishing jurisdiction of the corresponding Regional Government, in coordination with SERNANP, publishes the list of artisanal fishing vessels. , non-boarded artisanal fishermen and divers who have a fishing permit and a valid artisanal diver's card issued by DICAPI, who participate in the extraction on the Lobos de Afuera and Lobos de Tierra Islands.
