After days of bad weather, a large part of the pole boats moved out of the Closed Area where they found a significant concentration of shrimps. The fleet that was located on the external margin of the ban at the height of subarea 12 between the parallels of 44º and 45º South. There the yields are very good, at a rate of 5 tons per hour and with specimens of good commercial size.

Another smaller group stayed in subarea 11, located between the same parallels but further displaced to the West. In that area the boats could move more comfortably because there were not so many concentrates, but after a few days of bad weather the yields began to decrease and the number of juveniles to increase.

Once the bad weather conditions were overcome, the resource did not regroup as expected and with new data provided by the observers, the decision was made to close subarea 11 for fourteen days from hour zero today, due to the “sustained increase in the percentage of juvenile individuals (compatible with commercial categories L4 and minors) in the catches, already with values ​​that exceed the 20% established by resolution,” states the note signed by the Undersecretary of Fisheries, Juan Cazorla.

For now, the business sector has already held talks with the authorities to prospect new sub-areas. In principle, it has been agreed to prospect subarea 12 and subarea 7 starting on Saturday or Sunday, depending on weather conditions, given that strong winds are expected for the next few days. The other subarea that they are defining whether to prospect is 8, adjacent to 7, and both located between the parallels of 43º and 44º South.

Until June 26, 81,393 tons had been unloaded, according to official data.
