The Government of Mexico and representatives of the aquaculture and fisheries sector of the governments of the states of the country have committed themselves to ending the prevailing lag in the rural communities where producers of seas, rivers and lagoons reside.
At a meeting with the National Association of Fisheries and Aquaculture Authorities of Mexico (ANTAP), the head of the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (Conapesca), Raúl Elenes Angulo, asked its members to develop activities of collective benefit to be allocated to the most desprotected producers and to those who, in some cases, have never received any support from government administrations.

Through an integrating work strategy, they agreed to implement actions that contribute to transforming the lives of the people who dedicate themselves to this activity and, at the same time, position aquaculture and fisheries in the governmental agenda.
The commissioner stressed that the sector has been abandoned or relegated to federal administrations for many years, because the interests of groups or individuals have prevailed over the interests of fishermen and fish farmers.
For this reason, he emphasized the need to rescue the sector, with a policy focused on resizing, transforming and, above all, giving it the importance it has as a social, strategic and national food security activity.
Elenes Angulo told the representatives of the ANTAP, made up of the fisheries representatives in the governments of the Mexican states, Elenes Angulo: "With your interlocution and support, we are going to carry out many projects of collective benefit, we will solve old problems that never had a solution and in general we are going to make the sector more dynamic."
He also asked state officials to echo, in their respective states, that the support windows of CONAPESCA are open to register, because the purpose is to disperse resources for those who have never benefited from previous administrations.
On behalf of the members of the Association, its president, Matías Arjona Rydalch, assured that there is a willingness to work in coordination with Conapesca, in order to obtain positive results for the sector.
"It will be a joint work, with the purpose of obtaining profits for all entities," he said.
At the meeting, held at the headquarters of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) in Mexico City, he highlighted the agreement to hold more meetings to find solutions to issues such as inspection and surveillance or the reordering of the aquaculture and fishing sector, depending on the problems of each of the states.
Fisheries executives from the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Colima, Jalisco, Oaxaca, Sonora, Tamaulipas and Yucatan were present at the meeting.
