The steps taken by Governor Rosana Bertone along with national legislators in defense of the Argentine sovereignty over Malvinas gave positive results, and forced Chancellor Jorge Faurie to admit before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that the national government will not advance in the creation of a Regional Organization for Fisheries Management in the South Atlantic.
The creation of this body would have meant legitimizing the United Kingdom as a coastal State and obtaining recognition as such by other member states, generating a situation that would have the consequence of undermining the territorial and maritime sovereignty of the Argentine Republic in the South Atlantic.
Days ago, and by express instruction of the president, the Secretary of State for Malvinas Question Jorge Argüello had also requested a meeting to the Undersecretariat of Malvinas of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Nation to obtain explanations, an encounter that could not be made concrete because to have in the Chancellery any authority relative to the Malvinas Question.
In turn, the national senators for Tierra del Fuego presented a project to repeal the law 25,290 approving the "New York Agreement of 1995" and finally, notes were taken to members of the Parliamentary Observatory Malvinas Question of the National Congress requiring a meeting with the objective of unifying the necessary efforts for the protection, in a coordinated and consensual manner, of our legitimate rights over the South Atlantic islands and their surrounding maritime spaces.
In this regard, Senator Julio Catalán Magni told the foreign minister that it was "incomprehensible" that the Fueguian government should learn by transcended from the meeting held on Friday, May 10 at the Foreign Ministry, where it was analyzed to move forward with the creation of an OROP in the South Atlantic, being that the Province of Tierra del Fuego, to which the Malvinas Islands belong integrally, has created a Secretariat of State in agreement between the governor and the chancellor in order that the fueguinos have a voice in everything related to Malvinas.
