Imported frozen pollock milt, up 237% year-on-year

In July 2021, 849 tons of frozen pollock milt were imported, up 237% from 252 tons a year earlier.
In July, cumulative imports amounted to 6,073 tons, down 24% from 8,018 tons a year earlier.
From 2016 to 2021, the average import volume was 442 tons, up 92% from 849 tons in July 2021.
The countries exporting frozen pollock milt are Russia and the United States, with 95% (5,386 tons) of total imported from Russia and 5% (687 tons) from the United States in July.
The unit price imported from Russian was USD 1.94/kg and from the US USD 1.79/kg.
In July 2021, the import of frozen pollock milt was USD 2.04 million, up 366% from USD 440,000 a year earlier.
In July, the average unit price of imports was USD 2.40/kg , up 38% from USD 1.74 /kg in a year earlier.

Milt or soft roe also refers to the male genitalia of fish when they contain sperm, which is used as food. Many cultures eat milk, often fried, though not as a stand-alone dish.
In Korean cuisine, the milk (이리 iri) of Alaska pollock, cod, blackmouth fisherman, bogeo, and sea bream are eaten.
