PRODUCE Authorizes Start of Second Anchovy Fishing Season in the Southern Region from July 1

The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) authorized the start of the second fishing season for the anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and white anchovy (Anchoa nasus) resources in the maritime area between 16°00'LS and the southern end of the domain. maritime of Peru.

The head of PRODUCE, Sergio González, indicated that the capture quota amounts to 251,000 tons of anchovy and that it will begin on July 1, 2024 at 00:00 hours. Likewise, he specified that the conclusion date of the second season will be December 31, 2024 or once the maximum total allowable catch limit has been reached.

“The start of this second anchovy and white anchovy fishing season in the south of the country represents a boost to the country's economy and ensures the continuity of a vital activity. At PRODUCE we continue working to promote the sustainability of anchovy fishing in Peru and the well-being of the national economy,” he highlighted.

It is worth mentioning that only fishing vessels registered and authorized to carry out extractive activities can carry out fishing operations during the second fishing season in the southern part of the country, which will be published in the Directorial Resolution of the General Directorate of Fisheries for Direct Human Consumption. and Indirect from PRODUCE.

The owners of fishing vessels with current fishing permits for the extraction of the anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and white anchovy (Anchoa nasus) resources allow and provide the necessary facilities for the development and fulfillment of the functions of PRODUCE, including the activities to be carried out by inspectors accredited by the General Directorate of Supervision, Inspection and Sanction.

Failure to comply with the Ministerial Resolution that establishes the beginning of the second fishing season is sanctioned in accordance with the provisions of Decree Law No. 25977, General Fisheries Law, its Regulations, approved by Supreme Decree No. 012-2001- PE, in Legislative Decree No. 1084, Law on Maximum Capture Limits per Vessel, its Regulations, approved by Supreme Decree No. 021-2008- PRODUCE, in the Regulations for the Supervision and Sanction of Fishing and Aquaculture Activities , approved by Supreme Decree No. 017-2017-PRODUCE, and other applicable legal provisions.
