The Sub-Program of Benton Crustacean Fisheries and the Development of Fishing Gear, Capture and Technology Transfer Program of the National Institute for Fisheries Research and Development (INIDEP) is carrying out in San Clemente del Tuyú the first "Experimental blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) fishery and comparison of different trap designs" survey.
For five days, on the Willie and Bernie coastal vessels, test hauls will be conducted to describe the distribution and relative abundance of the blue crab, in the fishing areas near the spa town of San Clemente del Tuyú, Lavalle port and inland channels of the southern zone of Samborombón Bay.
The efficiency of different trap designs for the capture of crabs will be evaluated, operational management will be optimized (anchoring times, distance between traps, mesh sizes) and the reproductive status and population structure of the fraction accessible to the gear will be characterized. fishing.
