The most popular seafood item among Koreans is squid, which is also called a "national snack," and has a 15% approval rating. Mackerel came in second with 12.4% and Nori (algae) in third with 11.4%. This was followed by Tailfish (7.7%), Shrimp (7.4%) and Flounder (6.3%) in that order. In addition, oysters, abalone, seaweed, and salmon also ranked high.
On the other hand, as a place where seafood is mainly purchased, more than half of the respondents, 53%, ranked large supermarkets at the top. This was followed by the traditional market (21.8%), wholesale market, internet shopping sites (each 8.9%), and neighborhood retailers (5.1%).
