The agriculture ministers of Iran and China signed two fisheries and aquaculture cooperation deals to boost bilateral ties in those two sectors.
Based on the agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), China will invest CNY 20 billion (USD 3 billion) in several fishery and cage-based aquaculture projects, Tasnim News Agency reported.
The Chinese minister of agriculture, Han Changfu, is visiting Iran at the head of a 20-strong delegation of investors to develop cooperation between the two countries in different agricultural areas, especially in fisheries.
At the signing ceremony, Changfu noted that the fund will be invested especially in developing docks and harbours, boosting infrastructures, as well as building cold storage facilities, Tehran Times informed.
“We predict a further development in this amount by Iran’s joining to Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)," the minister pointed out.
“In a 20-year prospective plan, we prepare, in a gradual pace, 600,000 hectares of northern provinces of Mazandaran, Golestan, and Guilan, where Chinese contribution will improve traditional production facilities and practices in rice plantations, thus providing an economic advantage as well,” he stressed.
Back in January, China’s President Xi Jinping paid an official visit to the Iranian capital, during which high-ranking officials from the two sides signed 17 cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs).
International interest in ties with Iran has been growing since Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 finalized a comprehensive nuclear deal and started implementing it on January 16.
