The most favorite fishery product of the Korean people is mackerel, the ´national fish´

According to a survey on public awareness conducted by the Korea Maritime Development Institute on the 28th to mark the 40th anniversary of its foundation, mackerel (14.0 percent) was the most popular fishery product among Koreans.

Next, squid (12.9%) and seaweed (10.4%) were answered, while flatfish (7.8%), shrimp (6.5%), hairtail (6.5%), and salmon (3.7%) also showed high preference.

The response of flatfish (40.6%) was significantly higher for favorite raw fish, which differed between favorite seafood and favorite raw fish.

Following flatfish, salmon (11.3%), red sea bream (5.7%), yellowtail (5.4%), sea bream (4.1%), and squid (3.5%) were cited as their favorite raw fish.

More than half of the respondents said they were at home (55.0%) when it came to places where they ate seafood.

Following the household, they answered in order of sashimi restaurants (17.0%), general restaurants (15.5%), and delivery (7.2%).

When asked where to buy seafood, large discount stores (46.9%) were higher than traditional markets (21.1%) and online shopping (13.9%).

When it comes to indicating the origin of marine products, less than half (45.9%) of the respondents said they trusted, and more respondents said they did not trust (38.8%) or they did not trust (15.2%).

The most urgent improvement tasks related to marine products were improving safety (30.0%), followed by cheaper prices (27.8%) and securing transparency in transactions such as indicating the country of origin (18.9%).
