The Government proposes to increase the allocation for guarantee lots by NOK 5 million. Guarantee licenses are, in a way, a daily allowance for fishermen.
- Although fishing is largely normal, it is important that we prepare for situations that may arise. That is why we are now proposing to strengthen the system of guarantee lots, says Minister of Fisheries and Seafood Odd Emil Ingebrigtsen.
Good dialogue
Today, the government has put forward proposals for a number of measures that will help the business community through the corona crisis.
The general packages will also benefit parts of the fishing industry. The fishing industry is currently largely unaffected by the situation.
- I have close and good dialogue with the industry. We continuously assess the situation to meet challenges that may arise in the coming days, weeks or months, says Ingebrigtsen.
Guaranteed minimum income Guarantee allowance is, in a sense, daily subsistence allowance for fishermen, together with the so-called a-insurance scheme. Guarantee licenses shall ensure fishermen a certain minimum income in the various fisheries, should the fishing fail for various reasons.
The scheme is administered by the Guarantee Fund for fishermen (GarantiKassen).
There is already close and good cooperation between the Guarantee Fund and the organizations in the industry on how the terms of the scheme should be adjusted. The Ministry of Trade and Fisheries will shortly decide on this.
