The average CIF price at Customs of Japanese imports of Alaska pollock surimi or (Gadus chalcogrammus) in August was JPY 343/kg, value 8% lower than the previous month and 8% higher to August last year. The average price at Customs of itoyori surimi during the analysed month was JPY 338/kg, similar on that of the previous month and up 3% on that of August 2018.

Markets
In August the Japanese customs figures indicated that surimi imports were 8,618 tonnes worth JPY 2,930 million.
These figures are up 56% in volume and 49% in value on those of the previous month and down 29% in volume and 24% in value on those of August 2018.

Imports of Alaska pollock surimi (Gadus chalcogrammus) in the first eight months of the year total 59,232 tonnes and JPY 22,055 million, 8% lower volume and 4% more in value than in the same period from the previous year. Imports of itoyori surimi reached 11,936 tonnes and JPY 4,038 million, down 13% in volume and 12% value on those of the previous year.
Imports of other surimis (Pacific cod) were down 4%, 4,235 tonnes.
Alaskan pollock surimi (Gadus chalcogrammus) came entirely from the United States, while Itoyori came mostly from Thailand (5,020 tonnes) and India (2,776 tonnes).
