The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) established the fishing limits for jack mackerel and mackerel applicable to extractive activities carried out by all types of fleet during this year.
The maximum catches were set based on the results of a report, a report from the Marine Institute of Peru (IMARPE) on the development of the fishery in 2018 and its prospects for exploitation.

The report details that in the period from January to December 16, 2018, landings of jack mackerel and mackerel reached approximately 112,209 tonnes, of which 57,360 tonnes were mackerel (51.1 percent) and 54,849 tonnes of jack mackerel (48.9 percent).
It was estimated that the jack mackerel biomass in 2018 was 16 percent higher than that estimated for the previous year and that the spawning biomass was 19 percent higher. These results indicate that the decision on the jack mackerel catch quota for 2019 should be established in a range of 41,000 tonnes (minimum) and 79,500 tonnes (maximum), while the quota of the mackerel resource should be established in a range between 97,000 tonnes (minimum) and 135,000 tonnes (maximum). These figures "could be readjusted if a greater availability of jack mackerel and / or mackerel were evidenced during the Hydroacoustic Assessment of Pelagic Resources Cruises and the monitoring of the resources," says the IMARPE report.
Once the limit of capture of the aforementioned resources has been reached, PRODUCE will close the fishing activities.
In accordance with Ministerial Resolution N ° 015-2019-PRODUCE issued by the Ministry, the fishing limit for jack mackerel (Trachurus murphyi) corresponding to 2019 will be 79,000 tonnes, while that of mackerel (Scomber japonicus peruanus) will be 135,000 tonnes.
These quotas may be modified depending on the biological or environmental factors estimated by the IMARPE, and the evidence of greater availability of jack mackerel and mackerel resources. For this, the IMARPE must send to the Produce the recommendation with the corresponding measures.

Once the capture limit of the aforementioned resources has been reached, PRODUCE will terminate the extractive activities. Otherwise, the fishing activities of jack mackerel and mackerel will conclude on December 31, 2019.
IMARPE will monitor and follow the provisions of the ministerial resolution. For their part, the shipowners or fishing companies engaged in the fishing of jack mackerel and mackerel should provide accommodation and facilities that are required during fishing operations for the embarkation of scientific research personnel of the IMARPE or inspectors on board the PRODUCE, when these institutions require it.
