In addition to the increasing appetite of this gigantic market for premium Canadian seafood, Canadian lobster exports are also benefiting from a 25 percent tariff that the Chinese government has applied since last July to imports of lobster from the United States.
New Brunswick's lobster industry is being favoured because of this situation, and is seeing an increase in investments in the sector hand in hand with the growth of demand from China.

Nathan Song, who runs Bay Shore Lobster and Seafood in Back Bay, a New Brunswick community, said the company spent USD 1.6 million to double the capacity of the plant, which will operate year-round. reported CBC News.
The entrepreneur highlighted that the company doesn't process lobster, as customers in China want live Canadian lobsters.
The value of sales of live lobster to China has increased from USD 27 million in 2011 to USD 220 million over the first 11 months of 2018.
Song's company packages 200,000 pounds of lobster annually, 90 per cent of which is destined for China.
Canadian lobster exports are also getting a benefit from a 25 per cent tariff imposed on imports of US lobster by the government of China, implemented in July 2018.
The US remains the number one market for Canadian Lobster, with 22 million kilograms in sales in the first 11 months last year.
