After a few days with modest quantities and little fishing, registrations are ticking in again

There have been some quiet days on the fishing grounds this week. But this morning it ticked in with registrations for the mackerel. The fish have gathered again in the EU zone and it may look like things are on the road to recovery. Sales manager Kenneth Garvik hopes for a good day for the mackerel fishermen. 

"A good number of boats have finished with this year's mackerel quota, but there are still about 15 boats on the field", says Garvik.

As the boats have finished with the mackerel, more and more people have switched to fishing for NVG herring. In the Norwegian Sea, on the other hand, there has also been poor activity in recent days as the herring has been deep and little collected. 

"The 14,000 tonnes that have been fished this week have mainly come from the southern edge of Tromsøflaket and inland", says Garvik.

The herring here is somewhat smaller than in the Norwegian Sea and is on average plus / minus 250 grams. 

"A lot of herring from Tromsøflaket puts some pressure on prices, so we hope that fishing picks up out in the Norwegian Sea. It will also be important to get a supply of herring from both the Norwegian Sea and Tromsøflaket to serve both buyers and the market", says Garvik.

All in all, there is still good activity at sea, but somewhat calmer than the previous two weeks. It looks like we will have a small weather window towards the weekend so we hope that there can be good fishing in the EU zone and that the herring pulls up to the surface in the Norwegian Sea.
