First floating cage aquaculture projects to be launched in March

The first two floating cage aquaculture projects in Algiers will be launched next March, according to a press release from the Ministry of Fisheries and Fish Production.
The news was announced during a visit by sector's minister, Ahmed Badani, to two projects currently under way in the municipality of H'raoua (on the eastern outskirts of Algiers)..

These include a sea bream and sea bass farming project by the Aquarital company, with a production capacity of 880 tonnes/year.
The company will start stocking eight floating cages at the beginning of March 2024.
The project also includes a feed manufacturing plant and a fish larva hatchery.
The second project is being carried out by the Aquasparidae company, with a production capacity of 770 tonnes/year, which will in turn start seeding eight floating cages at the beginning of March 2024, according to the Ministry.
All in all, the combined production capacity of the two projects will reach 1,650 tonnes/year, which will "make an effective contribution to supplying Algiers markets with fish", according to the same source, which added that during this visit, the Minister reiterated "the sector's commitment to supporting all operators and project developers in floating cage aquaculture, given its role in guaranteeing national food security".
