Through Ministerial Resolution No. 00416-2023-PRODUCE, published yesterday in the official newspaper El Peruano, it is specified that the culmination of the aforementioned ban comes into force as of 00:00 today, Friday, December 8, 2023.

This measure is established based on the scientific recommendation of the Peruvian Sea Institute (Imarpe), which through its biological monitoring has identified that in November the bonito reached its reproductive peak and since December its reproductive activity would be reduced. In that sense, through the ban, the spawning of bonito has been protected to guarantee its sustainability.

Likewise, the legal norm indicates that, starting today, the second stage of exploratory fishing for the resource will begin for a period of 12 calendar days. This activity will be carried out at the national level and Imarpe will continue to monitor and track the main biological, population and fishing indicators of bonito.

It should be noted that the bonito fishery is intended exclusively for direct human consumption and is carried out mainly by the artisanal fleet.

This measure promoted by Produce seeks to continue the economic reactivation of the artisanal fishing sector and promote domestic consumption of the species to ensure food security.
