Despite Challenging Weather Conditions, Fishing Activity Continues This Week

Norwegian Spring-Spawning Herring (NVG Herring):

The herring fishery has been hampered by poor weather, but some activity took place in Kvænangen yesterday. A total of 3,810 tons was reported last week, of which 3,580 tons came from the coastal fleet, while a single purse seiner accounted for 230 tons.

Although catching the herring has been challenging, the sizes remain stable, ranging between 280 and 300 grams, comparable to the catches during the same period last year.

Fewer catches are expected in December as many vessels have already exhausted their allocated quotas.

North Sea Herring:

A total of 571 tons of North Sea herring was caught by seven vessels. Most of these catches were delivered for fishmeal and oil production. Currently, 12,582 tons remain of this year’s quota of 149,601 tons.

Coastal Sprat:

Coastal sprat fishing was conducted by three vessels in the Sognefjord and off Kragerø in the Skagerrak. A total of 135 tons was reported, all of which were processed for spiced sprat products.

Horse Mackerel:

Horse mackerel catches amounted to 90 tons, with fishing taking place off Bergen and further south to Skudeneshavn.

Blue Whiting:

In the blue whiting fishery, 3,830 tons were reported, caught by two different vessels.

Mackerel:

A smaller catch of 3 tons of mackerel was also registered this week.

Despite adverse weather, multiple fisheries continue to deliver steady activity across species.
