Thursday, June 29, 2017, 23:10 (GMT + 9)
The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) set the provisional fishery regime for hake (Merluccius gayi peruanus) for the period from July 2017 to June 2018.
Under this scheme, capture activities of the said resource are authorized from 00:00 hours on July 1, 2017 until June 30, 2018, in the maritime area from the northern end of the maritime domain of the Peru and 07º00 'LS.
The maximum allowable total catch limit (LMCTP) was set at 64,164 tonnes until June 30, 2018.
According to the ministerial resolution issued, the participation of the artisanal fleet in the present regime is not subject to the allocation of a catch limit for the hake resource, except compliance with the fishing management measures that are adopted to protect the reproductive process and the regulation of fishing effort.
Trawlers participating in this regime must take a scientific research technician (TCI) of Instituto del Mar del Perú (IMARPE) onboard during their fishing operations.
In the event of incidental catch of hake specimens inferior to 28 cm in percentages that are above 20 per cent for three consecutive days or five alternate days in a period of seven days, the Ministry of Production will suspend fishing operations in the area where it takes place for a period of up to seven consecutive days, if the results of the evaluation on the daily monitoring and the landing volumes indicate that the population development of said resource is affected. In the event of a repeat offense, the suspension will be doubled, and if this situation continues, a definitive suspension will be made until IMARPE recommends the lifting of said suspension.
The resolution also states that the amount not taken from the maximum catch limit per vessel (LME) allocated under this interim hake system may not be transferred to any other provisional regime, extinguishing the right of the fishing permit holder on the rest that has not been caught on the expiration date of the present regime.
