Customs statistics of bigeye tuna imports

The average price of Japanese imports of frozen bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus) was JPY 786 in April, up 1 percent on that of the previous month and down 7 percent on that of April 2018.
During the first four months of the year, the average price was JPY 785/kg, down 7 percent on that of the same period last year.

During the month analysed, imports of frozen bigeye tuna reached 5,058 tonnes worth JPY 3,975 million, up 11 percent in volume and 12 percent in value on those registered in the previous month, and down 24 percent in volume and 29 percent in value on those of April 2018.

In the first four-month period of 2019 imports reached 17,148 tons and JPY 13,464 million, down 13 percent in volume and 20 percent in value compared with the same period last year.
Fifty-five percent of the imports were from Taiwan (9,454 tonnes) while those from China amounted to 21 percent (3,620 tonnes).
