The Punta Vergara farming center, which belongs to AquaChile and is located in the region of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic, has obtained the BAP certification (Best Aquaculture Practices).
This center grows Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and is the first of the company in the Magallanes region to obtain this certification.
BAP is an international standard that takes into account key elements of responsible aquaculture, including environmental and social responsibility, food safety, health and animal welfare, and traceability.
"We are very happy with this certification, as it reflects the strong work and commitment of our company in terms of sustainability and good practices. I take the opportunity to highlight the work of the team from the Magallanes region who worked hard to obtain this certification," said Production Manager José Manuel Schwerter.
AquaChile is the second player in the world salmon industry behind the Norwegian group Mowi.
