The Ministerio de la Producción (PRODUCE) raised the catch limit for the horse mackerel resource (Trachurus murphyi) to 204,000 tons for the annual period 2024, applicable to extractive activities carried out by fishing vessels that have a valid fishing permit.

In this way, for the largest fleet the limit will be 84,000 tons; for artisanal fencing (from 20 m3 to 32.6 m3 of warehouse capacity) it will reach 100,000 tons; for artisanal fencing (less than 20 m3 warehouse capacity) it will be 14,375 tons; and for vessels that fish with curtains and other passive fishing gear it will be 5,625 tons.

The rule also specifies that PRODUCE, depending on the development of landings of the horse mackerel resource during the annual period 2024, may establish limits on the catch for the operation of fishing vessels with purse seines.

Finally, it points out that based on the new scientific evidence available and within the framework of monitoring the main biological, population and fishing indicators of the horse mackerel resource, the established catch limits may be modified, as well as the measures that are necessary for sustainable use. of the aforementioned resource.
