In 2023, Vietnam's tuna exports to Spain will continuously decline. This decreasing trend continued in the first 2 months of the year. However, since March, Vietnam's tuna exports to this market have grown continuously at a high level over the same period.

According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, tuna exports to Spain in May 2024 increased by 182% over the same period in 2023, reaching nearly 1.8 million USD, higher than in 2022. Accumulated in the first 5 months of 2024, tuna exports to this market reached more than 5 million USD, up 32% over the same period.

Among tuna product groups, Spain is currently importing the most frozen tuna meat/loin products with code HS0304 from Vietnam. Notably, this year frozen steamed tuna loin products are also increasing in export to this market.

There are currently 10 companies participating in exporting tuna to this market. The leaders are Trang Thuy Seafood Co., Ltd, Bidifisco and Tuna Vietnam, accounting for 60% of the total tuna export value to this market.

In the Spanish market, Vietnamese tuna has to compete strongly with Ecuadorian, Chinese and Philippine tuna. These countries, with the advantage of exploitation fleets, are far superior to Vietnam in terms of domestic raw material supply.
