By mid-July, fishermen had caught more than 40 thousand tons - the rate of catch increased over the week

By July 16, the total catch of Pacific salmon in the Far East exceeded 40 thousand tons. The figure is still behind 2023 and 2022, but the rate of fishing is beginning to increase. The course of the Season was discussed at the regular weekly meeting of the headquarters at Rosrybolovstvo.

Deputy Head of Rosrybolovstvo Vasily Sokolov noted that the fishing industry is entering an active phase of development - over the past week there has been a significant increase in production indicators.

Fishermen of the Kamchatka Territory, who in the last decade have provided the main contribution to the total catch in the Far East, produced 29.5 thousand tons. The second and third places are now occupied by the Khabarovsk Territory - 5.7 thousand tons and the Magadan Region - 2.63 thousand tons.

In the Sakhalin region, the catch amounted to 1.5 thousand tons, in the Primorsky Territory - 1.4 thousand tons, in Chukotka - 195 tons.

In the structure of the catch by salmon species, pink salmon took first place - 32.7 thousand tons (80%) were caught. Next comes the production of sockeye salmon (about 5.3 thousand tons or 13% of catches), chum salmon (2.76 thousand tons or 6.7%), and chinook salmon (279 tons or 0.7%). The exploitation of masu salmon reached 30 tons, coho salmon - 12 tons.

“Nobody expected any records this year, so overall the situation is beginning to stabilize. Some regions have a plus in terms of catch, others – a minus. Meetings of the industry council are being held, adjustments to increase the catch are being agreed upon,” said Vasily Sokolov.

Fishermen from the Khabarovsk Territory, Primorye and the Magadan Region received an “addition” to the volume of permitted pink salmon catch due to good approaches and a high level of filling of spawning grounds.

At the meeting, they discussed the organization of the delivery of fish to coastal enterprises for processing and to ports for further transportation to the regions of the country, as well as the issuance of export certificates.

By July 16, the total load of refrigerators for storing fish products in the Primorsky Territory was 25% (more than 28 thousand tons of fresh frozen fish products).

At the approach to the sea ports of the Primorsky Territory there were 22 vessels with 47 thousand tons of fish products, including salmon (one vessel, 248 tons), as well as pollock (27.4 thousand tons), herring (0.15 thousand tons ) and cod (0.94 thousand tons).

It was noted at the meeting that last year’s poutine products are now being processed for export. The deputy head emphasized that fresh catches should be supplied to the domestic market as a priority, since salmon products are in great demand among the population.
