The Pollock Catchers' Association (PCA) claims that the pandemic has disrupted trade ties and that Russian seafood exporters have lost sales markets in China and South Korea . Indonesia could be a good buyer, but since 2017, the Russian authorities have been unable to agree on documents allowing the supply of fish there.
According to the association, last year Indonesia imports of fish and fish products amounted to 117 thousand tons. The fishermen supplying their goods there raised $ 300 million. At the same time, Russia could count on a quarter of this share.

But the authorities have not yet concluded an intergovernmental agreement with Indonesia for direct supplies, in connection with which PCA is asking Rosselkhoznadzor , Rosrybolovstvo and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to speed up the signing of the documents.
Russian fishermen do not have access to several other countries with high fish consumption, for example, in Malaysia and Tunisia. The PCA calculated that only five percent of the world market is not available for domestic fish products, the capacity of which could be about 6 billion rubles.
Meanwhile
According to Rosstat, the export of Russian fish, despite the pandemic, in the first 6 months of this year increased by 6.7 percent compared to January-June 2019 and amounted to 1.16 million tons.
