The Undersecretary of Marine Affairs of Galicia has approved aid to 75 projects of the Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs) through which it is planned to create more than 50 direct jobs.

This is reflected in a report analyzed in the Council of the Xunta on the grants approved in the 2018 call for projects of these groups and co-financed with the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF).

The report indicates that the economic value of these subsidies is more than EUR 4.4 million, which will favour the move of a global investment of more EUR 11.6 million. It also highlights that 33 per cent of the projects approved are promoted by women or young people from the coastal areas.

19 of the approved projects correspond to FLAG 1 Mariña-Ortegal

It also shows that of the approved projects, 46 are productive ones, that is to say, business or professional orientation initiatives, with a grant amount of about EUR 3.2 million. The remaining 29 projects are non-productive, which means those that do not involve the beginning or development of an economic activity, with a total value of aid granted of around EUR 1.3 million.

The majority of the subsidized initiatives are aimed at supporting diversification within and outside the commercial fishing sector, to lifelong learning and to the creation of employment in fishing areas. It is followed by projects focused on increasing value, creating jobs, attracting young people and promoting innovation in all phases of the supply chain of fishery and aquaculture products and, in the case of non-productive projects, the promotion of social welfare and the cultural and environmental heritage of the fishing and aquaculture areas.

Regarding the distribution by groups, the report indicates that 19 of the projects approved correspond to the FLAG 1 Mariña-Ortegal, with a total amount of subsidy of EUR 780,000.

FLAG 2 Golfo Ártabro Norte has 11 projects approved with grants worth around EUR 503,000; FLAG 3 Costa da Morte has nine projects approved with grants worth more than EUR 576,700 and the FLAG 4 seno de Fisterra ría de Muros y Noia costa sostenible has nine approved initiatives worth around EUR 600,800 in aid.

In addition, the FLAG 5 ría de Arousa has ten approved initiatives with aid for a total value of about EUR 797,000 and that of Ría de Pontevedra has another ten approved projects with a subsidized amount of more than EUR 648,400. Four projects with an economic aid value of about EUR 279,000 correspond to the FLAG 7 ría de Vigo A Guarda, and another six approved projects with a subsidized amount of more than EUR 295,200 to the FLAG 8 Golfo Ártabro Sur.
