'Historical sanction' to Nissui’s Chilean subsidiary for illegal fishing in Falklands

The Ministry of Agro-Industry has implemented the maximum fine to the fishing firm Empresas de Desarrollo Pesquero de Chile SA (Emdepes SA), a Chilean subsidiary of the Japanese group Nissui, for performing illegal fishing activities in 2014 in the exclusive economic zone of Argentina, near the Falkland Islands.
The measure is part of the Federal Fisheries Act No. 24922, and according to the national body, it is the first sanction of its kind in the history of the sector.
