On Galician markets, during January, total volumes of auctioned shellfish declined in most species, except scallops, flat oyster and variegated scallops that reported a rise. The most important drops were those in cockles, manila clam, pullet carpet shell and spider crab.

On Mercabarna, during January, total shellfish volumes declined by almost 700 tonnes, compared with December 2017. This drop affected all species. The most important drops were those in fresh mussels and fresh oysters.
On Mercamadrid, in January 8, total shellfish volumes declined by 640 tonnes, compared with the previous month. Only that of purple dye murex reported a slight rise. The most significant rises were registered in fresh mussels, fresh velvet swimcrab, fresh European lobster and fresh clams.

Prices
Spain
On Galician markets, in January, prices declined in most species due to a lower demand. Those of flat oyster and variegated scallop increased because of a higher demand. There was also a rise in cockles, ox crab, Norway lobster and velvet swimcrab, following a drop in supplies.

On Mercabarna, prices of species declined in the case of fresh Galician barnacle, fresh spiny lobster, fresh Norway lobster, fresh grooved carpet Shell, frozen European lobster and fresh common snail. The most importan trise was registered in fresh European lobster.
On Mercamadrid, in January, the price of frozen shellfish remained stable. Regarding fresh species, there was a drop in clams, import spider crab and barnacles due to a lower demand. There was a rise in cockles, European lobster, striped venus and Norway lobster because of lower supplies.
