Prices

The average CIF price of fresh bluefin (HS 030345000 and 030346000) imported by Japan in October was JPY 2,356/kg, up 10% on that of September and 1% on that of October 2017. In the first ten months of the year, the average was JPY 1,824/kg, up 3% on that of the same period last year.

Markets

During the month analysed, about 570 tonnes of fresh bluefin were imported, worth JPY 1,343 million at Japan Customs.

These figures are up 3% in volume and 12% in value on those registered in the previous month. Compared with October 2017, imports increased 36% in volume and 338% in value.

During the ten months of the year, imports reached 5,912 tonnes worth JPY 10,783 million, up 22% in volume and 25% in value on those of the same months last year.

The main supplier of northern bluefin (Thunnus thynnus and/or Thunnus orientalis) was Mexico during the period, with 3,072 tonnes and JPY 6,220 million.
