Customs data on imports of Alaskan Pollock surimi and Itoyori

The average CIF price at Customs of Japanese imports of Alaskan Pollock surimi (Theragra chalcograma) in May 2019 was JPY 370/kg, down 3% on that of the previous month and 9% on that of May 2018. The average price at Customs of itoyori surimi during the analysed month was JPY 332/kg, down 2% on that of the previous month and up 8% on that of May 2018.

Markets
In May the Japanese customs figures indicated that surimi imports were 17,161 tonnes worth JPY 6,2789 million.
These figures are down 1% in volume and 3% in value on those of the previous month and down 1% in volume and up 7% in value on those of May 2018

The imports of pollock surimi of Alaska or colin (Theragra chalcograma) in the first five months of the year add 42,849 tonnes and JPY 15,970 million, similar volume and 14% more in value than in the same period of the year previous. Imports of itoyori surimi reached 7,902 tonnes and JPY 2,672 million, down 25% in volume and value on those of the previous year.
Imports of other surimis (Pacific cod) were up 26%, 2,090 tonnes.
Alaskan pollock (Theragra chalcograma) surimi came almost all from the US and itoyori surimi from Thailand (3,192 tonnes) and India (1,913 tonnes).
