With this delivery, MMC First Process becomes responsible for supplying equipment and technology for moving live fish in the facility. The system for fish logistics must ensure good fish welfare when handling fish in the growth phase and all the way to processing.
The technology that MMC First Process contributes is based on deliveries composed and developed over three decades based on experience from the well boat industry and land-based aquaculture, where the company is a leader in systems for handling live large farmed fish.
Heidi Kyvik, CBDO at Eyvi AS, highlights, among other things, that they have chosen MMC First Process as a supplier due to the significant optimization the company has made around fish transfer technology and not least their expertise in gentle handling of live fish.
"These are important criteria both for good fish health and not least for success in land-based farming of food fish. This facility will be a showcase for both us and the industry, and then it is of course important that we choose a partner who gives us extensive experience and security in handling the fish", says Kyvik.
Børre Haanes Waagan, sales director for land-based farming in MMC First Process, says that this is a very important contract for the company:
"With this delivery, we are bringing forward a system for fish logistics where gentle handling of each and every live fish is taken into account. The system for fish logistics is designed so that Hima Seafood can move and sort fish as needed, thus ensuring the possibility of optimal fish welfare and utilization of the entire production capacity in the facility".
"Waagan further explains that farming on land can be compared to hotel management where well-being and full occupancy provide the best economy, and this is precisely what we make possible for Hima Seafood in Rjukan", says Waagan.
MMC First Process expects further positive development in the market and since 2019 has built up a specialized team on land-based farming based on experience and expertise from well boats, holding tanks on land and the overall fish handling expertise in the company.
Frank Edvard Vike, CSO - Fish handling in MMC First Process, says that it is gratifying to see products that have been successful with for a long time from well boats and other land-based deliveries, such as strainers and tower sieves, now included in the deliveries for land-based farming.
"We believe these systems are important when fish welfare is to be the focus. We strongly believe that the collaboration that has now started with Eyvi AS will also open up new deliveries, such as Hima Seafood's investment in the USA", concludes Vike.
