Norwegian Aquaculture Technology Applied to Different Climates
(NORWAY, 7/31/2013)
When people speak of Norwegian aquaculture technology, they think of salmon farming. While it is true that most of it is about salmon farming in a cold climate, over the years, Norwegian technology has been applied to a number of non-salmonid species and in different climates, even in the tropics.
As world-wide interest in Norwegian aquaculture has grown, a need to present the possibilities and potential pitfalls of this technology has emerged.

Aqua Nor is the world’s largest aquaculture exhibition. |
Therefore, the Nor-Fishing Foundation and the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) is organizing a mini-seminar on the use of modern, science-based aquaculture technology in different climates and for non-salmonid species during the Aqua Nor 2013 exhibition.
The application of safe, environment-friendly, responsible and sustainable aquaculture practices is a major concern for the FAO, and for that reason, the Assistant Director General for FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mr. Arni Mathiesen, has agreed to give the keynote address during this mini-seminar.
In addition, a number of Norwegian companies with broad experience from using this technology in sub-tropical and tropical climates and for a number of tropical and other species will share their experiences.
The mini-seminar will be held on Tuesday 13th August at 15:00 – 17:00 hrs in Meeting room M8.
There is limited space, so in order to secure a seat, please register with:Erik Hempel, e-mail erik.hempel@hempelco.com or telephone +47 9084 1124.
