Vietnamese pangasius exports grew 8pct up to July
(VIET NAM, 11/23/2017)
Vietnamese pangasius exports experienced a year-on-year growth of 8.2 per cent in the first seven months this year, totalling USD 1 billion in revenue, according to statistics from Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters & Producers (VASEP).
Although exports to the European Union fell by 23.5 per cent compared to those last year, shipments to some potential markets such as Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Saudi Arabia experienced a positive growth.
In the first seven months, sales of Vietnamese pangasius to the US market reached USD 220.8 million, representing a 3.3 per cent growth over the same period last year and accounting for 22 per cent of the total value of Vietnamese exports of the resource.
Considering the second quarter, these exports to the American market recorded a remarkable increase from 11 per cent to 52 per cent over the same period in 2016, which pushed the market to the leading position.
Up to July, Vietnamese pangasius exports to China - Hong Kong grew by 46.2 per cent, reaching USD 206.1 million.
In the period from January to July, pangasius exports to the four potential markets showed the good signs over the same period last year with growth of 59.3 per cent; 25.7 per cent; 8.9 per cent and 6 per cent, respectively.
VASEP stressed that the sharp decline in the last three years in the EU market has forced Vietnam pangasius companies to shift their exports to other potential importing markets, as it is the case of these four markets.
