FleXicut Marine to be Installed Aboard HB Grandi

  (ICELAND, 4/23/2018)

HB Grandi has signed a deal with Marel for a FleXicut system and packing graders to be installed aboard its new freezer trawler. Marel has sold more than 30 FleXicut machines since the revolutionary pinboner and portioner was introduced in 2014 and this is the fifth sale of the onboard version.

The complete FleXicut system will perform onboard processing of boneless fillets and enable HB Grandi to increase its value-added production.

FleXicut combines high precision bone detection with water-jet cutting for pinbone removal and further portioning of the fillet.

The FleXicut Marine machine aboard the new trawler will X-ray each fillet, evaluate its weight, detect pinbones and use water jets to cut them out of the fillet. Rotating knives will then portion the fillet according to set criteria.

FleXicut improves yield and quality while reducing labor costs. As the second generation of FleXicut emerges, greater interconnectivity and new features are improving results all the way through processing, while the reliability of existing systems is further fueling the constantly growing interest in FleXicut from the industry.

This automation of whitefish bone detection and removal reduces the need for skilled labor, and greatly improves overall yield and quality.

Spanish shipyard Astilleros Armon Gijon, S.A. is handling the construction of the new freezer trawler and the Marel installation will take place in Q3 2018.
