Primorye Krai has significantly boosted its seafood exports, with over 162,200 tons of herring shipped to China between January 1 and November 28, 2025.

The Primorsky branch of "APK NATSRYBA," an organization under Rosselkhoznadzor, confirmed that a total of 397 shipments met all required safety standards and regulations of importing nations. Specialists assessed the safety of the products, issuing compliance certificates for all batches.

• China: 314 batches, totaling over 162,200 tons.

• Republic of Korea: 83 batches, totaling 24,200 tons.

The exported herring was sourced from the Sea of Okhotsk and the West Bering Sea zone. This substantial volume highlights Primorye's vital role in supplying seafood to Asian markets.

Tilapia prices in Brazil rose across all monitored production centers during the last week of November (24-28), reflecting a market with a slight upward trend fueled by firm demand.

According to a Cepea survey, price increases varied locally based on supply and demand dynamics:

• Northern Paraná, a major producing region, registered the highest price at R$ 10.02/kg (approximately US$ 2.05/kg), despite a minor weekly increase of 0.09%.

• The Triângulo Mineiro/Alto Paranaíba region saw the largest weekly surge, jumping 0.47% to R$ 9.38/kg (approximately US$ 1.92/kg).

• Prices in other key areas:

  • Great Lakes region: R$ 9.10/kg (US$ 1.86/kg), up 0.20%.

  • Morada Nova de Minas: R$ 9.14/kg (US$ 1.87/kg), up 0.35%.

  • Western Paraná: R$ 8.82/kg (US$ 1.80/kg), up 0.24%.

The data underscores a continuous positive variation in the tilapia market as the month concluded.

The Deep Sea Conservation Coalition (DSCC) welcomes the decision by the Norwegian Parliament to stop all plans for deep-sea mining in Arctic waters until the current parliamentary period ends in fall 2029. During this time, no exploration or exploitation licenses will be issued. The decision also cuts funding for government mineral mapping, which is essential to the development of the deep-sea mining industry. 

Sofia Tsenikli, DSCC Global Campaign Director, said: "This is a major win for the ocean, climate and nature. Norway’s decision to halt all deep-sea mining exploration and exploitation is another nail in the coffin for the unnecessary, reckless, and highly destructive industry. A moratorium is the best way to ensure the deep ocean, and the benefits it provides us all, are safeguarded for generations to come” 

Until now, Norway has been a strong proponent of deep-sea mining, both in its national waters and in international waters at the International Seabed Authority (ISA). This decision aligns with overwhelming scientific advice and is a major blow to the nascent industry’s efforts to gain momentum. 

The DSCC calls on Norway and the wider international community to join the 40 countries already taking precautionary action, and to formally support a global moratorium/precautionary pause to protect the deep ocean from irreversible harm. 

Marlborough Sounds – Five crew members were dramatically rescued from rocks at French Pass in the Marlborough Sounds last night after their fishing vessel ran aground, prompting a challenging, 12-hour operation by Coastguard volunteers.

Maritime NZ’s Rescue Coordination Centre was alerted around 11:30 pm Tuesday. Coastguard Nelson reported that one person was thrown overboard, but all five crew managed to reach the safety of the rocks, though they were "very cold."

The rescue vessel, Sealord Rescue, arrived around 2:30 am. Its crew had to contend with French Pass’ notoriously strong currents to maneuver close enough for a safe retrieval. Coastguard Nelson skipper Steve King praised the team's "certainly put to the test" vessel handling skills during the intense operation.

The skipper and engineer, along with a Coastguard volunteer, were placed back on the fishing vessel to prepare it for towing. Sealord Rescue then successfully towed the disabled boat to Croisilles Harbour for damage assessment by divers.

The coordinated team effort, which concluded just before 1 pm Wednesday, was widely praised. A special thank you also went to the staff of Nelson's Styx Restaurant for delivering hot bacon and egg butties to the returning, weary crew.

The Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has secured management rights for approximately 20,413 hectares of forest land, previously used for illegal fish farming, to implement President Prabowo Subianto's priority food security program.

The revitalization targets areas across four regencies in the North Coast (Pantura) of West Java: Bekasi, Karawang, Subang, and Indramayu.

Key Program Details:

• Focus: Transforming unproductive land into high-value, sustainable, and environmentally friendly aquaculture zones.

• Species: The initiative will prioritize tilapia cultivation, chosen for its suitability to the Pantura environment.

• Environmental Measures: Each site will be equipped with a Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPAL) and natural filter vegetation zones to preserve the marine ecosystem, while the land retains its official forest status.

India has emerged as a key driver in Asia's shift from wild-caught to farmed fish, recording a massive 167% expansion in inland aquaculture production, according to a regional study by the Bay of Bengal Programme Inter-Governmental Organisation (BOBP-IGO).

Production jumped from 1.5 million tonnes in 2014 to nearly 4 million tonnes in 2023. This growth is crucial as marine capture fisheries are stagnating across Asia, contributing to the region's 70% share of global fish production. Aquaculture's share of fisheries employment in India has also risen significantly to around 40%.

The Hidden Cost: Fish Loss and Waste (FLW)

Despite this surge, the study, presented at an FAO/BOBP-IGO workshop, raised alarms over high Fish Loss and Waste (FLW).

• Marine fish losses have climbed to over 10% (up from 2.78%).

• Dry fish losses are critically high at 37%.

These losses are driven by inadequate cold-chain capacity, poor handling, and unhygienic landing sites. The report warns that this translates to reduced food security, a major drain on vital nutrients for low-income households, and financial setbacks for small-scale fishers.

Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) Chairman D.V. Swamy noted that while India’s $7.5 billion export industry maintains stringent quality control, the domestic supply chain faces serious vulnerabilities and food safety risks.

In a recent update, Lie - an analyst for Nordic corporate bank SEB - writes that the bank now expects a spot price of around NOK 90 er kilo next week, equivalent to €7.7 / £6.73 per kilo. This is NOK 5 higher than the levels SEB estimates for the current week, reports Fish Farming Expert's Norwegian sister site, Kyst.no.

According to Lie, SEB sees good momentum in the market, and early signals indicate that prices will continue to rise towards Christmas. The increase is explained primarily by lower available volumes and a seasonal increase in demand as the holiday season approaches

Year-on-year growth in the third quarter is mainly explained by the recovery of volumes in the salmon segment, following last year’s sharp production drop caused by an algae bloom.

Blumar released its consolidated financial results for the third quarter of 2025, a period marked by the recovery from events that took place in 2024, such as the algal bloom, the fire at the salmon processing plant in Magallanes, and the delayed sardine and anchovy season. These events explain the significant year-on-year variations in consolidated revenue, EBITDA, and accumulated net income.

As of September 30, 2025, consolidated revenues reached US$ 568.7 million, a 30% increase compared to the same period last year.

Norwegian salmon exporters gain ground in Thailand as Asian shift accelerates.

Thailand has become one of the fastest-growing Asian markets for Norwegian salmon, overtaking both Japan and South Korea in combined salmon and trout volumes and establishing itself as a key destination in the region.

Exports of salmon and trout to Thailand have continued to rise throughout 2025, making the country the second-largest Asian market in volume terms. Norwegian exporters have expanded their market share in Thailand to more than 73 percent so far this year.
