IN BRIEF - Fishrot probe could take years – Kawana

NAMIBIA
Thursday, December 12, 2019

Acting fisheries minister Albert Kawana says the planned investigation into the fishing sector could take years to complete.

Kawana said people should not expect issues of maladministration, corruption and nepotism in the fishing sector to be fixed in a week, a month or a year, because some of the anomalies could require the government to amend the Marine Resources Act.

The acting minister explained at a media briefing on Monday that he was ordered by president Hage Geingob to investigate if there were any instances of maladministration, corruption and nepotism in the sector.

Other Media | The Fish Site: A bid to revitalise RAS performance in India

INDIA
Monday, July 14, 2025

Shaurya Agarwal, co-founder of Blue Wave Aquaculture, aims to not only bring quality RAS-produced rainbow trout to discerning Indian consumers, but also provide a model to catalyse a new industry in his homeland.

According to Agarwal, there’s a significant demand for trout in India but consumers face a fairly unpalatable choice – they can either opt for domestically-grown fish that aren’t always produced to a high standard, or rely on expensive alternatives that have been imported from Norway and Denmark.

It’s a situation that Blue Wave aims to capitalise on – by producing premium trout products in India at a significantly lower cost. Indeed, according to Agarwal, while the industry average for producing trout via RAS globally hovers around $26 per kg, Blue Wave’s production costs should be $10 per kg less, thanks to lower labour, transport and energy costs.
