Walmart is cutting corporate jobs to streamline online and physical store sales, according to recent reports.
Walmart has laid off “hundreds” of employees, including in-store planning, logistics, merchandising, and real estate, Bloomberg reported.
“We are continuing on our journey to create an omnichannel organization within our Walmart U.S. business and we’re making some additional changes this week,” Walmart said in a statement to Bloomberg late last week.
Walmart’s e-commerce sales surged 74 percent in the first quarter of this year.

Technology provider AKVA’s risk appetite has waned for the aquaculture barge business, a segment that its chief executive described as being less profitable for the company.
The group made a one-time cost provision of 31 million NOK ($3.24 million) on its Q2 balance sheet due mainly to an ongoing barge project in Canada.

Salmon farmers in British Columbia have claimed recent statements issued to Vancouver media from anti-salmon farming campaigners are contrary to data and evidence.
The BC Salmon Farmers’ Association (BCSFA), which represents more than 70 businesses involved in British Columbia’s salmon sector, claimed veteran salmon industry opponent Bob Chamberlin had “stepped over the line with his latest inaccurate statements to media”.

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) has suspended its Certification of Rockall Haddock effective of 23 July 2022 after a recommendation by the independent conformity assessment body (CAB).
The SFSAG Rockall haddock fishery was issued a notice of suspension in June. With the suspension now in place, fish caught on or after 23 July 2022 will no longer meet the MSC Standard and therefore cannot carry the blue MSC ecolabel.

Rhode Island is home to more than 80 oyster farms, or one in every six oyster aquaculture businesses on the East Coast.
El Segundo, California: Performance Team – A Maersk Company has announced a new cold storage facility planned for Ridgeville, South Carolina to serve temperature-controlled goods, opening in Q1 2023.
The new facility will offer a strong value proposition to customers through supply chain simplification benefits, cold storage solutions, refrigerated inland trucking, blast/quick freezing, USDA meat inspections, boxing/repacking, and other value-added services.
The strong population growth near Charleston (the U.S. Southeast where Charleston is located is the fastest growing region, 25% faster than the 2nd fastest region, the West) provides much needed capacity for shippers. The new site will reach 80 million consumers within one day and 225 million consumers within two days.
The new site will comply with the company’s cold storage building sustainability standards. It will be certified LEED Gold and have rooftop solar, a CO2 cascade refrigeration system, LEDs and smart lighting, low-flow water devices, rainwater recapture, electric car charging, and use a virtual power purchase agreement for clean power to offset any grid power consumption.
Contributing to the decarbonization and greater sustainability of salmon farming centers in Chile, through the use of Green Hydrogen (H2V) as an energy source for the processes, is what American Digital Twins aspires to.

The International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) has updated its report on large-scale tuna purse-seine fishing fleets for July 2022. The total number of purse-seine vessels, calculated from data from the five Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs) of tuna, has decreased slightly, from 1,855 in the 2021 report to 1,808 today.
