Seafood processing equipment-maker Cabinplant has opened a new facility at its headquarters in Haarby, Denmark.

The new, 4,500-square-meter production plant increases the company’s production area by 50 percent, allowing Cabinplant “sufficient capacity for continued growth in the coming years,” according to CEO Ralf Astrup.

“It feels fantastic to be able to stand in a production hall like this today and we all have great expectations as to what we can achieve in the next few years. It is no small investment,” Astrup said.

Led by Mowi, salmon shares rose in value on Wednesday, SEB singled out SalMar.

Just before the close of the stock exchange on Wednesday, salmon shares climbed on an otherwise slightly positive Oslo Stock Exchange. Mowi is leading the way, rising 4.2 per-cent, ahead of Grieg Seafood (3 per-cent), Atlantic Sapphire (2.8 per-cent), Bakkafrost (2.5 per-cent) and SalMar (2.1 per-cent).

There was no significant company-specific news on Wednesday, beyond investment bank SEB raising price targets on a number of shares.

Norway and the United Kingdom have signed a new framework agreement on fisheries co-operation enabling both parties to agree to on the exchange fishing quotas as well as mutual access to each other’s areas of fisheries jurisdiction. The agreement will enter into force on 1st January 2021.

‘This is a great day! I am pleased that we have reached an agreement with the United Kingdom, which will be an important coastal state and partner from January 2021,’ said Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Seafood Odd Emil Ingebrigtsen.

The Chinese government has asked frozen food importers to avoid countries with severe coronavirus. In fact, China suspended imports from seafood producers in Brazil, Indonesia and Russia for a week or more.

Chinese customs has detected several cases of imported seafood that tested positive for the virus. "Customs and local governments have repeatedly detected the coronavirus in imported food from the cold chain, demonstrating that there is a risk of contamination," the Beijing Municipal Commerce Office said in a statement issued to importing companies.

The Blumar - Camanchaca Consortium, made up of Blumar S.A. and Camanchaca Pesca Sur S.A. It will have 13,793 tonnes of horse mackerel (Trachurus murphy), which correspond to the unused surplus of the high seas quota and which corresponds to the country by the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organization (RFMO - PS).

The award was granted by Produce within the framework of Public Tender No. 02-2020-PRODUCE / Horse Mackerel, published by Directorial Resolution No. 002-2020-PRODUCE / DGPARPA and Circular No. 05-2020-PRODUCE / CEJUREL. These 13,793 tons of horse mackerel will be harvested until December of this year and will provide resources of more than 1.9 million dollars for the promotion and competitiveness of the activity.

Trading is currently around 20 per-cent below pre-COVID levels.

NZ King Salmon posted its full-year financial results for the 12 months ended 30 June.

The company’s revenue dipped to NZD 155 million (EUR 87 million), down 10 per-cent compared to last year. EBIT dropped by 10 per-cent to NZD 17 million (EUR 9.5 million).

Sales volumes were down 16 per-cent on FY19.

A feed ingredient from a genetically modified oilseed plant has been announced as one of three finalists for the Global Aquaculture Innovation Award 2020 presented by the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA).

Aquaterra, made by Nuseed, uses canola that has had microalgae genes added so that it produces omega-3 oils and other nutritionally important fatty acids.

Given the situation generated by the health emergency and the impossibility of conducting inspections on the ground, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of Korea, MFDS, approved a documentary audit carried out on six Chilean companies that export fishery and aquaculture products to that Asian nation.

Saithe is a white, wild, healthy, and very affordable fish that is caught off the coast of Norway in a sustainable way. It has a very characteristic flavor within white fish and a firm texture, like a good swimmer, which makes it very versatile in the kitchen.
