Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Nguyet, Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries, said that by 2022, the growth rate of seafood production value will increase by 3% compared to 2021, the total production will reach 9 .06 million tons, an increase of 3.1%. compared to 2021. In which, fishing production reached 3.86 million tons; agriculture reached 5.19 million tons.

In particular, it is estimated that the export turnover of seafood in 2022 will reach a record of around USD 11 billion, 23.8% more than in the same period of 2021 (USD 8.89 billion). and

22.2% compared to the USD 9 billion target. In which, the export turnover of brackish water shrimp reached 4.1-4.2 billion USD (an increase of almost 13% compared to 2021); pangasius reached 2,350 million dollars (almost 70% more than in 2021).

However, in 2023, the fishing industry will face many difficulties and challenges. Firstly, the difficulty in withdrawing the IUU yellow card. Second, according to the latest World Bank (WB) assessment, world growth will slow down in 2023, thus affecting all import markets. Along with that is the challenge of standardizing the national production process, especially in terms of data to attend to the production of the industry.

The business representative, Ms. Le Hang, Director of Communications of VASEP, said that the market advantages in the fourth quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023 will no longer exist. This is because inflation has strongly affected global consumer demand, reducing exports in the first quarter of 2023.

“Currently, orders have decreased considerably, many companies have not received orders by the first quarter of 2023. We also expect that starting in the second quarter or at least the second half of 2023, the world economy will gradually recover, demand for the market, then we will have the opportunity to boost exports again.", Mrs. Le Hang said. She recommended companies prepare raw materials and resources, ready to return to production when the market recovers.

This will be the basis for the Ministry to direct the Directorate of Fisheries in its management tasks at the beginning of 2023, when the world economy is forecast to face many difficulties”, emphasized Mr. Phung Duc Tien.

In 2023, the fishing industry set the target total aquaculture area of 1.3 million hectares; total production of seafood of about 8.74 million tons and an export turnover of about 10 billion dollars.
